How Can I Help My Child Succeed in 2nd Grade?
IMPORTANT! Please send in a complete change of clothes to be kept in your child's locker. Make sure all items are labeled and are in a large labeled ziploc bag. Student's clothes can need changing for a variety of reasons...bathroom accidents (it can still happen in 2nd grade), spills, mud, etc. Save yourself from having to make a trip to school with a change of clothes)
Please let the office know if there is any change in transportation and cc me on that email as well.
- Stay involved and feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and is ready for school each day.
- Have your child pack his or her school bag the night beforeand have it waiting by the door.
- Make sure your child eats breakfast before school and has ahealthy snack and lunch each day.
- Ask your child specific questions about their day. (ex. What story did you read today? What did you do in writing, science, math, etc.? What did you do during Daily 3 or Math Rotations?)
- Monitor, check, and support your child in making sure that homework is completed. They are not old enough to be fully responsible for homework.
- Teach your child to be responsible for his/her things and in being prepared for school. This may require a nightly check-in and working together to sharpen pencils and pack the schoolbag.
